Pizza is a savory dish of Italian origin, consisting of a usually round, flattened base of leavened wheat-based dough topped with tomatoes, cheese and various other ingredients baked at a high temperature, traditionally in a wood-fired oven.

Ingredients: 


For pizza dough - 

  • Strong white flour : 1 lb.

  • Yeast : 7 gram

  • Vegetable/olive oil : 1 tablespoon

  • Water (warm) : 300 ml

  • Sugar (granulated) : 1 teaspoon

  • Salt : as per taste


For tomato sauce -

  • Roma chopped tomatoes : 1 tin (400 gram)

  • Onion (chopped) : 1 piece

  • Garlic clove (crushed) : 1 piece

  • Herbs (basil, thyme, parsley etc.) : 1 teaspoon

  • Oil : 2 tablespoons


For toppings (suggested) -

  • Mozzarella cheese (grated)

  • Fontina cheese (grated)

  • Parmesan cheese (grated)

  • Feta cheese (crumbled)

  • Chicken (cooked, shredded)

  • Ham (thinly sliced)

  • Pepperoni (thinly sliced)

  • Mushroom (thinly sliced)

  • Bell pepper (stems and seeds removed, thinly sliced)

  • Pepperoncini (thinly sliced)

  • Onions (thinly sliced)

  • Basil

  • Olive



Instructions: 


For tomato sauce - 

  1. Heat the oil in a pan, add the onions and gently fry until soft. Add the tomatoes, garlic and herbs and bring to the boil. 

  2. For a smooth sauce, blitz the mixture in a food processor. Sauce should be thick enough to coat the back of a spoon. If it needs thickening, bring it to the boil and reduce to thicken, this may take a few minutes.

For pizza dough - 

  1. Make the dough by putting the flour, sugar, salt and yeast into a large bowl. Add the oil to the warm water and pour into the dry ingredients. Mix together to form a dough.

  2. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 7 to 10 minutes, until dough is smooth and elastic. This can be done in half the time by using dough hooks in an electric mixer. 

  3. Return to bowl and cover loosely with a tea towel. Leave in a warm enough place to prove until doubled in size. About 45 minutes to 1 hour.


For assembling pizza - 

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.

  2. Dust a board with flour and roll out to a round, size depends on the thickness and the number of pizzas you wish to make.

  3. Place pizzas on baking trays or baking stone. Spread with a little of the tomato sauce, then the cheese and toppings of your choice.

  4. Bake for about 10-15 minutes depending on the thickness of the pizza, until the pizza is golden underneath and the topping is bubbling on top.

  5. Serve hot.
